For some time, the American people have known that Attorney General Bill Barr is nothing more than another Trump pawn inside our government. Recently, many current and former government officials have begun to catch on to that fact, as well. But now, as Barr continues to prove that his loyalty lies only with the president and not this nation, one of those closest to the now-Attorney General has broken their silence, as well. And it’s not in Bill’s favor.

In a piece for The Atlantic, Bill Barr’s former supervisor, Donald Ayer, published a fiery call to action in which he outlined Barr’s repeated abuse of executive power and ultimately called for the Attorney General to step down from his position.

Ayer served as the Deputy Attorney General under George H.W. Bush and served as Barr’s supervisor during 1989 and 1990 when he manned the department’s Office of Legal Counsel.

Ayer began his piece by describing the expectations that many had for Barr as the new Attorney General as well as the optimism they felt at the prospect.

However, he wrote, “At the end of his first year of service, Barr’s conduct has shown that such expectations were misplaced.”

He then went on to outline the corrupt behavior displayed by Barr throughout the course of not only the Mueller investigation but the Ukraine scandal as well, in addition to the fact that he was personally implicated in the now-infamous July 25th phone call between Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ayer details his issues with “Barr’s intrusion, apparently for political reasons, into the area of Justice Department action that most demands scrupulous integrity and strict separation from politics and other bias—invocation of the criminal sanction,” but pointed out that “worst of all have been the events of the past week.” Ayer went on: “The evenhanded conduct of the prosecutions of Roger Stone and Michael Flynn by experienced Department of Justice attorneys have been disrupted at the 11th hour by the attorney general’s efforts to soften the consequences for the president’s associates.”

The remainder of Ayer’s piece continues in this vein, highlighting the multitude of reasons that William Barr is simply not fit to serve as the highest officer of this nation.

He concluded his article by writing, “Bill Barr’s America is not a place that anyone, including Trump voters, should want to go. It is a banana republic where all are subject to the whims of a dictatorial president and his henchmen. To prevent that, we need a public uprising demanding that Bill Barr resign immediately, or failing that, be impeached.”
