In recent election cycles, Charlamagne Tha God’s “The Breakfast Club” has become a crucial campaign stop for candidates. Kamala Harris, in her first run for president in 2019, appeared on the show, where she memorably talked about her college-era marijuana use. Harris returned to the show as a presidential candidate last week.

Charlamagne’s show has also sometimes attracted Republicans, such as Tuesday morning, when Lara Trump appeared.

Lara is Eric Trump’s wife, Donald’s daughter-in-law, and the current co-chair of the Republican National Committee. In a clip that went viral from “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne asked her if her father-in-law is racist, running through everything from the investigation into his real estate rental practices in the 1970s to his ad calling for the execution of the Central Park Five to his embrace of Obama birtherism.

“I think that’s ridiculous. I’ve known this man for 16 years,” Lara said, denying each of the statements individually. She said Trump settled the real estate case with no admission of wrongdoing while noting that the Central Park Five defendants were prosecuted by Democrats. She did not appear to bother trying to defend the Obama birth certificate campaign.

“You have to look at somebody and what they actually have done, and Donald Trump really was very beneficial to the Black community when he was in the White House,” Lara said, adding “I’ve never seen this man say a racist thing.”

This led Charlamagne to audibly laugh.

“People act like there’s no such thing as Google, or we don’t have TV,” he said.

The Central Park Five, who were mentioned in the segment, filed a lawsuit against Trump this week, after Trump claimed in his presidential debate last month that they pled guilty to charges that they “badly hurt a person, killed a person ultimately.”

“Trump’s statements were false and defamatory in numerous respects,” the suit said, per The Daily Beast. “Plaintiffs never pled guilty to the Central Park assaults. Plaintiffs all pled not guilty and maintained their innocence throughout their trial and incarceration, as well as after they were released from prison.”
