In case you hadn’t noticed, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has been damn desperate for some book sales here lately. Quite literally, the man has hawked himself on every TV segment and podcast appearance he could dream up and even went so far as to embroil himself in this really weird feud-but-not-quite-feud with his former pal, ex-President Donald Trump.
I say it that way because Christie never really fully committed to being anti-Trump. I mean, he was one of the first public officials to formally endorse Donald Trump during his 2016 campaign and remained loyal to the guy all throughout his four long years in office. Something like that doesn’t just go away. Christie only began to ever so slightly pull back from the one-term, twice-impeached former president in the face of Donald’s “Big Lie” regarding the 2020 election — seemingly trying to ride the line between publicly criticizing Trump and still somehow remaining loyal to him.
If you want my honest opinion on the whole thing, I think most of Christie’s criticism of Trump really boiled down to an attempt to play both sides of the fence when it came to peddling his new book.
And it didn’t pay off.
As it turns out, Christie’s new book, Republican Rescue, was a total flop, only selling just over 2,000 copies in its first week.

Eric Boehlert, a longtime liberal watchdog, reports in his Press Run newsletter:
A senior publishing source with access to the industry’s BookScan tabulations tells me that ‘Republican Rescue’ sold just 2,289 copies during its first week in stores, which constitutes a colossal publishing flop. That figure does not include digital copies of the book, but based on industry sales patterns, given Christie’s weak showing in stores he likely sold only a few hundred digital ones.”
To add to Christie’s dismal sales, it seems his old pal Trump was (unsurprisingly) not satisfied with his attempts to ride the Trump-supporting line.
As you’d expect, Twitter was quick to pile in on the former NJ governor:
2,289.
That’s how many copies @ChrisChristie’s new book sold its first week.
In the book world, that is a colossal flop.
I don’t normally rejoice in another’s failure.
But after his sycophancy & complicity which lead to our hellish years with TFG, I say: GOOD!

Chris Christie’s new book sold just 2,289 copies during its first week of release, making it one of the biggest flops in history despite nonstop coverage on every cable news network. Have a nice Monday!

Time for some sales problems in Fort Christie https://t.co/PfFsrK7wEE

The number of MSM interviews Chris Christie did for his book appears to have exceeded the number of books sold. Epic bomb. https://t.co/PtXkDf0apK

So he basically sold one book for every TV appearance he made…
Seems nobody gives a shit what Chris Christie thinks. Cable news bookers should act accordingly. https://t.co/889YxUBhsl

But to add insult to Christie’s injury, it wasn’t just pretty much all of blue check Twitter that buried him in mockery. His good old pal Trump weighed in too — with one of his “official statements” in lieu of an actual tweet, of course, thanks to that pesky lifetime ban of his.
Donald’s statement was short and to the point, only reading, “ICYMI: ‘Chris Christie’s new book on how to save the Republican Party sells paltry 2,289 copies.'” But it was accompanied by a link to a DailyMail article with the cheeky headline, “White elephant! Chris Christie’s new book on how to ‘save’ the Republican Party sells paltry 2,289 copies during its first week on shelves despite huge media blitz by ex-NJ governor.”

It’s pretty clear that Donnie is getting some serious enjoyment out of his former pal’s humiliating failure.
I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts Christie’s feeling a lot of regrets right about now.
