As the scandal mounts and reaches a shattering fever pitch around disgraced ex-President Donald Trump, one legal expert is offering up a damning analysis complete with the theory that this could very well end with Donald Trump in a jail cell.
The bombshell news dropped today that New York state Attorney General Letitia James has won in court yet again against Donald Trump after Judge Arthur Engoron ruled in her favor to hold the former president in contempt and ordered him to pay a daily fine of $10,000 for every single day that he continues to defy the court’s orders in AG James’ case against him and his family business, the Trump Organization.
Now, CNN legal analyst Elie Honig says the ex-president’s continued defiance against the court could actually result in a New York state judge quite literally sending him to jail, provided that the circumstances become “extreme” enough.
“He will be billed $10,000 a day starting from whenever this order officially issues, could be today, could be tomorrow,” Honig said today. “Trump is going to try to appeal this. If he loses, he gets billed for all of that and he has to keep paying until he either complies or shows the judge, ‘I looked everywhere, and I have nothing.'”

“CNN host Alisyn Camerota interjected, saying, “Or he could go to jail.”
“In a very extreme circumstance — he can’t just blow this off, he can’t just say I refuse to pay,” Honig explained. “In a very extreme circumstance, yes, a judge can send him to prison.”
Back at the beginning of this year, Attorney General James’ office released a bombshell announcement, publicly stating that their investigation had uncovered “significant evidence” of fraud that suggested the ex-president’s business had purposely misrepresented and falsified the values of various properties and assets, in one extreme or the other, in an effort to garner more favorable loans and tax breaks.
James released a statement today on the heels of the judge’s ruling in her favor:
Today, justice prevailed. For years, Donald Trump has tried to evade the law and stop our lawful investigation into him and his company’s financial dealings. Today’s ruling makes clear: No one is above the law.”
