Bloomberg News is now breaking the news that ex-President Donald Trump has lost his appeal in his case to keep his taxes hidden from Congress in a federal court today.

The scandal-ridden former president, who is positively drowning in a variety of legal perils these days, has been desperately attempting to block his taxes from landing in the hands of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has been fighting to acquire the now ex-president’s tax documents for quite literally years now, in connection to their ongoing purview.

Per 26 U.S.C. § 6103(f)(1), tax documents and information pertaining to a United States president must be handed over to Congress whenever requested. However, Donald Trump’s taxes have infamously remained hidden from the public and from any congressional oversight, as the United States Treasury Department has continued to refuse to overturn the materials.

Back in August of this year, a federal appeals court consisting of a three-judge panel ruled that House Democrats are entitled to review Donald Trump’s tax returns for 2015 to 2020. The ex-president responded to this ruling by filing an appeal, requesting that the full DC Circuit reconsider the decision.

Today, the US Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C. shot down his appeal and his concerted effort to keep his tax information hidden from Congress, the American people, and any form of oversight.

Ways and Means Chair Richard Neal spoke with reporters following the ruling and said in an emailed statement, “The law has always been on our side. We’ve waited long enough — we must begin our oversight of the IRS’s mandatory presidential audit program as soon as possible.”

It is expected that Donald Trump will respond by appealing the ruling to the United States Supreme Court.
