Even Trump’s Old Secretary Of State Warned One Recently Trump-Endorsed Candidate Raises “National Security Concerns” Over Deep Ties To Former Country

Those endorsements are getting a bit out of hand.

Ex-President Donald Trump has given his “complete and total endorsement” to so many people over the last few months, as midterms and primaries rapidly approach, it’s genuinely impossible to keep up with them all at this point. It’s reached such a bad point that even his former spokesperson has spoken out recently to say that the best way to weaken and defeat Donald Trump is to go after his endorsements, as his ego swells and he attempts to position himself as a “kingmaker” among the Republican Party.

But while so many of those “complete and total” endorsements have been a little more than forgettable, some have been centered in the spotlight over how controversial they’ve been — even among members of his own party.

It’s likely that the first Trump-endorsed candidate to come to mind here is Ohio’s J.D. Vance, who just won his primary race for the state’s open Senate seat, and Trump’s support for him was met with a lot of slack as Vance was a staunch critic of the former president that long ago at all.

But as it turns out, there’s another congressional candidate who was recently endorsed by the former guy that’s also raising a lot of stink.

Television personality Dr. Mehemet Oz was recently publicly endorsed by ex-President Donald Trump. But now, Donald’s own former Secretary of State is speaking out, saying there’s more to Dr. Oz than what necessarily meets the eye, and it could be dangerous for this country.

Speaking with reporters on a call hosted by Republican Pennsylvania Senate candidate David McCormick recently, former Trump-era Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized the TV Dr. who’s currently running for the highly contested Pennsylvania GOP primary to replace retiring Senator Pat Toomey — stating that the candidate’s ties to Turkey raise “national security concerns.”

“We criticize American candidates all the time because they didn’t vote,” Pompeo reportedly said on the call, according to The Hill. “This is different from that. Not only did he not engage in the American [process] but he engaged in the Turkish political process. That raises in my mind a lot of judgments about his priority.”

It seems Pompeo was referencing an ABC News report that detailed the concerns of security experts over Oz’s decision to vote in the 2018 Turkish elections. This concerning decision took place just two years following Turkey’s President Erdogan’s violent suppression of a coup and massive purge of his critics.

“Maybe it’s all innocent, maybe it’s all straight up, but we and the people of Pennsylvania and the Americans who he will be representing as one of the 100 members of the United States Senate voting on important national security matters need to understand the scope and depth of his relationship with the Turkish government,” Pompeo reportedly said.

“This isn’t about whether it’s lawful, it’s about who is best suited to be the next United States Senator from Pennsylvania that’s been represented by a patriotic American conservative for an awfully long time.”

In another vein, this endorsement has ignited a struggle among the party, as Oz’s opponent David McCormick has personal ties to Trump-world, through his wife Dina Powell who served as Donald Trump’s deputy national security advisor for strategy.

Oz’s campaign was quick to slap back over Pompeo’s remarks, calling them “pathetic and xenophobic.”

Oz’s communications director Brittany Yanick released a statement saying, “Now that he lost President Trump’s endorsement, he’s resorted to sad and desperate attacks that are no different than the tropes used against Catholics and Jews.”

“Dr. Oz has already said when elected to the Senate he would renounce his citizenship. There is no security issue whatsoever, and David McCormick knows that Dr. Oz has maintained his dual citizenship to make it easier to help care for his mother who has Alzheimer’s and lives there.”
