Former DOJ Official Speaks Out, Says Special Counsel’s Letter To The Court Signals He Won’t Be Cutting Trump’s Legal Team “Any Slack”

He's coming for you, Donald.

Trump has been panicking pretty hardcore ever since the news broke of the US Justice Department’s new Special Counsel investigation into the former president’s numerous alleged crimes. He made that more than crystal clear to the entire world with the embarrassing impromptu, makeshift press conference he held at his Mar-a-Lago resort on the heels of the DOJ’s announcement — where he donned a literal tuxedo, complete with a black bowtie and all, to make it apparent that he was super serious about the whole ordeal — in which he went on a rampant, public attack against the “neverending witchhunt” that’s been lodged against him.

But according to one former Justice Department official, Trump’s panic is more than a little warranted.

Former Department of Justice official Harry Litman recently made an appearance on MSNBC, where he discussed the bombshell surprise letter that newly-appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith sent to the court — and Litman says it’s a very bad sign for the former president and his legal team.

Smith sent the bombshell letter to the judges on the 11th Circuit of Appeals the week of Thanksgiving, in which the Special Counsel fired back at an assertion recently made by the scandal-ridden former president’s legal team.

Law & Crime reported on the assertion made by Trump’s attorneys:

The 11th Circuit’s three-judge panel, comprised of two Trump appointees and a George W. Bushappointee, asked Trump whether a court ever asserted equitable jurisdiction to block the government from reviewing seized records pending review by a special master. Trump’s legal team claimed that the Giuliani case provided a precedent for that.”

This assertion ultimately led Smith and a fellow U.S. Attorney to pen a fiery letter to the court, explaining in depth that Trump’s legal team was, simply put, flat out wrong, as the pair went on to further explain and clarify the government’s actions.

MSNBC host Alex Witt brought up the topic of the letter during the recent segment and Litman wasted no time in describing it as a warning shot from Smith.

“Now, Jack Smith, that’s a judgment call and a telling one here,” Litman said. “Something like that happens… you are new to the case. There may be some people who say, ‘you know, don’t look too strident, don’t do that, let it go. The court will figure it out.’ Jack Smith said ‘no.'”

“He wrote a letter, a very straightforward, one-paragraph letter that said, this is incorrect for these three reasons,” the former federal prosecutor went on to explain. “In other words, he really did swat them down and it showed he is not gonna be cutting a lot of slack, he is holding their feet to the fire.”

“That matters a lot for the Trump team because they are very often barefoot,” Litman joked before going on to add, “He is really showing his reputation for being pretty aggressive.”
