A lot of new information has rolled out this week regarding former President Donald Trump and his connection to and role in the violent January 6th Capitol insurrection, and one former federal prosecutor turned legal analyst said it’s very bad news for the big guy, as DOJ-appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith now knows everything he needs to know to make one damning case of election conspiracy against the already scandal-plagued ex-president.
This analysis comes on the heels of a trove of new J6 information, most notably newly-reported testimony from long-time Trump associate Dan Scavino, who told Justice Department investigators that now-former President Donald Trump simply “was just not interested” in doing much of anything to stop the onslaught of violence and mayhem in the midst of the Capitol attack. In fact, sources familiar with Scavino’s testimony revealed that the long-time associate had to present Trump with drafts of tweets calling for his supporters to be peaceful at the Capitol building because Trump wouldn’t even pen his own social media post.
MSNBC Anchor Katy Tur spoke with former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann on the heels of the bombshell revelations and asked, “What more does Jack Smith need to learn about that day?”
Based on the reporting, nothing,” Weissmann answered. “What he needs is a trial date that sticks. This is a very strong case.”

Weissmann, who previously served as a prosecutor in the infamous Mueller probe, did add the caveat that Special Counsel Jack Smith has to prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt to secure a conviction against the indicted former president.
“So I don’t want to say this is what’s going to happen,” the former Mueller prosecutor noted. “But in terms of the strength of the case…this is a strong case, seeing the Dan Scavino reporting, assuming that’s accurate, that’s another nail, but there are many, many nails that he has.”
