Former Watergate Prosecutor On SCOTUS Ruling: “What Donald Trump Is Looking At Is The Potential That He Is Going To Be Indicted For Either Tax Fraud Or Bank Fraud”

Donald is one step closer to prison.

Donald Trump would have everyone believe that he won some sort of victory in the Supreme Court regarding his tax records, but former Watergate prosecutor Nick Ackerman has bad news for him.

The high court handed down a 7-2 ruling granting Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance — and a grand jury — access to Trump’s tax documents after a year-long effort by Trump to keep them hidden.

Trump and his sleazy lawyers can still delay the release of the records, but not for much longer. At some point in the near future, prosecutors in New York will have them. And once they do, Trump could end up wearing an orange jumpsuit in a prison cell.

“It’s just a matter of time before this evidence gets before the prosecutors, gets put before a grand jury,” Ackerman said on MSNBC. “What Donald Trump is looking at is the potential that he is going to be indicted for either tax fraud or bank fraud.”

If Trump thinks his crony Attorney General Bill Barr can intervene, he’s wrong. Barr has no jurisdiction over state and local investigations. When the Supreme Court made their ruling, they effectively prevented Trump from using Barr to kill any tax fraud investigations against him. Now objective investigators will be in charge.

“Now the prosecutors who are not beholden to William Barr, independent people are actually going to have these tax returns and be able to conduct an investigation based on these returns,” Ackerman explained. “That is an absolutely huge difference than what’s been going on now and has been going on in the Barr Justice Department, who has been nothing more than a sycophant for Donald Trump and has basically assisted him in covering up the Russia investigation and what’s been going on in the Southern District of New York.”

If indicted and found guilty of committing tax and bank fraud, Trump would face up to seven years in prison.

“So this is absolutely a red-letter day in terms of what the Supreme Court did, and I think it’s just a matter of time before this evidence gets before the prosecutors, gets put before a grand jury,” Ackerman concluded. “And what Donald Trump is looking at is the potential that he is going to be indicted for either tax fraud or bank fraud — basically the same thing that his former campaign manager, Manafort, was convicted of. So this has not been a good day for Donald Trump.”

The sooner Americans oust Trump from office, the sooner we can watch him be held accountable and receive the punishment he deserves. That’s something else to get everyone excited to go to the polls.
