With the midterm elections now just over a month away, one veteran Fox News commentator is warning that things are looking bad for Republicans.
According to Mediaite, it happened on Fox News’ Special Report on Wednesday. Bret Baier hosts the show, and he had Brit Hume as his guest, who formerly hosted the same show but is now Fox’s Chief Political Analyst.
The two reviewed midterm election polling data and found that some races, including the Senate race in Michigan, are moving in Democrats’ favor. And the data shows that the cost-of-living issue, so crucial to Trump’s win in 2024, has cut against the GOP in a major way.

“Overall, Bret, I would say that the Republicans don’t have much going for them this cycle. And the polls all suggest that. The mood of the country suggests that. They do have more money than the Democrats do, which could be spent wisely, one would imagine, to help them,” Hume said on the show.
“But this 69% number that you show there on cost of living, I don’t think much is gonna change on the cost of living over the next month. It could change a little. Things have turned around a bit in the Strait of Hormuz. But I think Republicans have to worry about is, opinions have solidified and not in their favor. And that number suggests that that may be the case.”
Trump remains historically unpopular.
According to the RealClearPolling average, Trump’s average disapproval rating is now 20.8 points underwater, with his average approval rating at 38.8 percent and his disapproval rating at 59.6 percent, with every poll included in the average listing Trump underwater by double digits.
