Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is a frequent source of controversy, whether it’s over her back-and-forth support for Donald Trump, her controversial comments, her tattoos, or other issues.

But now, Mace is under fire for comments she recently made about a botched execution in Tennessee.

Convicted murderer Christa Pike was to be put to death earlier this week, but a failed lethal injection kept her alive, leading that state to declare a moratorium on executions.

Mace joked about it on X this week.

After someone on X joked that Mace should serve as the executioner, Mace joked, “Tell your lawyer I’m free in January. Already have the uniform.”

Mace, who ran for governor of South Carolina and lost the primary, will no longer be in Congress as of January.

Before the botched execution, which was to be carried out by an all-female team, Mace had joked that “they should have just sent in some killer moms.”

Mace had earlier called for a public execution of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts woman who stood trial this summer for the murder of her three children:

Social media users weren’t especially kind of Mace after this episode.
