Much has been written, including multiple books, about the resemblance of Donald Trump’s political style to the aesthetics and storytelling of professional wrestling. Donald Trump even hosted a pair of Wrestlemania events in Atlantic City, participated in a third, and is the president who is enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame. WWE’s former CEO, Linda McMahon, is a long-time Trump loyalist who has been nominated as secretary of education.

So it was not that huge a surprise that Hulk Hogan, the wrestling champion of the 1980s, appeared at the Republican National Convention this year to endorse Trump for president.

But there is something a bit more surprising: Hogan, it appears, is angling for a position in the incoming Trump Administration. The Hulkster said in a Fox News interview this week, as cited by The Daily Beast, that Trump has approached Hogan to “run” the President’s Council on Physical Fitness.
“At the end of the day, when I was in the back at Madison Square Garden after the whole rally, we were talking about Robert Kennedy, I was talking about nutrition, and how many foreign countries won’t even let their people eat the food that we eat here in America,” Hogan said in the Fox interview.
That body, which is now called the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, has often been co-chaired by well-known athletic figures, usually on an unpaid basis. Arnold Schwarzenegger held its chairmanship in the 1990s, while NFL quarterback Drew Brees was its co-chair in 2010. During Trump’s first term, the body was co-chaired by Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Mariano Rivera and former NFL star Herschel Walker, both of whom have endorsed Trump. Walker unsuccessfully ran for the Senate in Georgia in 2022, with Trump’s backing.
Most recently, the council has been co-chaired by WNBA star Elena Delle Donne and chef Jose Andres, of World Central Kitchen; Andres was once sued by the Trump Organization. The current council will remain in place through the end of September of next year, so Trump won’t need to name a new council for a while.
