Impeachment Sketch Artist Apparently Caught Republican Senator Sleeping During Trial

They aren't taking this seriously.

Everything is working out with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s plan after his resolution to give House impeachment managers and Trump’s defense team 24 hours to present their arguments beginning at 1:00 p.m. and ending at 1:00 a.m. McConnell doesn’t want the public to witness the late-night sham the GOP has initiated and Midnight Mitch’s team started the proceedings with a list of lies. But, this is what we’ve come to expect from Republicans who put party over country for their corrupt “president” while they give him free rein to create havoc.

A Republican lawmaker — the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee — was reportedly caught napping during Tuesday’s marathon Senate impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump.

Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) was caught sleeping on the job during a pivotal time in our country as the impeachment proceedings were only into its fourth hour at about 5:30 p.m. This explains why McConnell kept the press at bay but, Sleepy Jim’s snooze-fest was captured by a New York Times sketch artist in the chamber.

In a twist of irony, Senate majority leader said that America is watching, but apparently, at least one juror thought it was nap time.

“This is a historic moment,” Schumer said. “The eyes of America are watching. Republican senators must rise to the occasion.”

NBC News reports that “when Jay Sekulow took the stand, speaking audibly louder, Risch was jolted awake” from his slumber.

Now, some of you might be thinking that anyone would fall asleep at some part of these marathon proceedings but the impeachment trial is lengthy because of the Republicans’ own rules. A spokeswoman for the sleepy Idaho Republican said that he was most likely listening “with his eyes closed or cast down,” which he does often when listening closely, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Yeah, sure, and I’m going to tell my publisher that I can’t work today because my dog ate my laptop. Republicans should at least pretend to be taking this seriously as they slap down any motion to present evidence and witnesses during this historic impeachment trial.
