This week in Clarksville, Tennessee, between the campaign promises and the crowd chants, Donald Trump took a moment to discuss his marriage, his wife’s distaste for his stage gestures, and the delicate question of who is the bigger star in the Trump household.
The gesture conversation came first.
Trump told the crowd that Melania has made her feelings about his signature fist pumps very clear. “You know, my wife hates it when I do this. She said, ‘Do you have to do that with the fists, and this,'” he said, demonstrating the movements she apparently objects to. Melania told him the gestures were “not at all elegant” or “presidential,” to which Trump replied: “It may not be presidential, but I won the election in a landslide, ok, that’s all I know.”
He went further, revealing that Melania also takes issue with the way he acts when speaking about transgender people. “She said, ‘I don’t like it when you do the weightlifting, I don’t like it when you do the swimming,'” Trump told the crowd, mimicking the movements in question.
The documentary came next.

Trump called Melania “a very elegant woman” before pivoting to a joke about her film’s success that the crowd received warmly. “There is only room for one star in a family,” he said, “so I don’t need this movie stuff.” The remark carries more weight than a throwaway punchline when you look at the numbers.
The documentary “Melania,” directed by Brett Ratner, follows the first lady during the 20 days leading up to Trump’s second inauguration. Amazon paid $40 million for distribution rights and spent an estimated $35 million on marketing, bringing the total investment to around $75 million. The film pulled in $7 million on its opening weekend and grossed $16.7 million in total, falling well short of what Amazon put in.
Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Hank Johnson launched an inquiry into whether the deal was part of what Warren called “bribery in plain sight,” accusing Amazon of funneling money into the film to curry favor with the administration.
Trump also repeated a claim that drew skepticism the last time he made it, insisting that Melania refers to him as “Sir” in private. “You know my wife told me, ‘Sir, do me a favor,'” he told the crowd.

It was not the first time he made the claim, having said the same at a Texas rally earlier this year to similarly skeptical reactions from people who found it hard to believe a wife calls her husband “Sir.”
@Acyn “Sir” is the easy tell that he’s making up the story.

@Acyn Nothing says “love” like your wife calling you “sir”, but, then again, does anybody actually believes that Melania talks to Trump?! https://t.co/vbwtHuWKE5

@Acyn 1) There’s no way Melania calls you sir.
2) You got 49.8% of the popular vote; that is not a landslide.— Kitty ✝️✡️🐈⬛ (@kittensnrainbws) October 11, 2026
@Acyn His wife ALWAYS hates him. It’s clear as day.

@Acyn He tells a story here and says again that his wife calls him SIR. Either he’s a demented liar, or they have the most whacked ‘marrige’ ever. Or both.

@Acyn The “Sir, you know” is probably in the letter sent to him by Melania’s attorney. That’s why thinks that’s how Melania talks to him.

Questions about the state of the Trump marriage have followed the couple through most of the second term. Author Michael Wolff has stated that Melania does not live “side by side” with Trump and is not “supporting” his work as president the way previous first ladies did.
Political commentator David Pakman said it would be impossible for Melania to know much about the president’s working life because she is “basically estranged” from him.
