Jake Tapper Bursts Out Laughing At Vance As He Tries To Explain Why Trump’s Allies Are Now Speaking Out Against Him

Donald Trump is being opposed by a great many people who served in his administration- everyone from domestic to foreign policy advisors, to his former chief of staff John Kelly, and Gen. Mark Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Both Kelly and Milley have described Trump as a fascist, while Kelly said in a recent interview with The Atlantic that Trump once told him that he wished his generals were as loyal to him as Hitler’s generals were.

As of August, only half of the people who served as cabinet secretaries during Trump’s presidency were backing him for president. And he has not, of course, been endorsed by his former vice president, Mike Pence.

The question is, how much will that matter for Trump’s election chances? CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, about it in an interview this weekend. Vance, who himself has a history of criticizing Trump, implied that former officials who have turned against Trump are upset at Trump not for his conduct, or possible fascistic tendencies, but rather for opposing American entrance into new foreign wars.

Tapper: So all of these dozens of people who worked for Trump just have this damaged worldview and they’re all just going after Donald Trump because they want to send people into war?

Vance: Absolutely

“All of these people, including the former vice president, Mike Pence, all of these people have this horribly damaged worldview, and they’re all just going after Donald Trump because they want to send people into war?,” Tapper asked Vance, who answered, “absolutely.”

“These aren’t conservative Republicans who are concerned about Donald Trump?,” Tapper asked.

“All of these people, Jake, came into office thinking they could control Donald Trump,” Vance replied. “That when he said he wanted peace in the world…”
