Like Donald Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) hasn’t even done the bare minimum to fight COVID-19, and now the Sunshine State is suffering from a record-breaking number of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations. Florida is now the nation’s new virus epicenter. A Florida school district was forced to drop its mask mandate for schools after the Republican governor issued an executive order that would cut off funding to schools that did so.
Instead of hitting the ground running to keep Floridians alive, DeSantis blamed President Joe Biden by falsely suggested that the COVID spike in Florida was due to immigrants coming in from the southern border.
“Joe Biden has taken to himself to try to single out Florida over COVID,” DeSantis said on Wednesday. “He’s imported more virus from around the world by having a wide-open Southern border.”
“Why don’t you do your job?” DeSantis added. “Why don’t you get this border secure? And until you do that, I don’t wanna hear a blip about COVID from you, thank you.”

The individuals around DeSantis cheered him on, and that’s weird coming from the party of personal responsibility. Biden has been laser-focused on dealing with the spreading disease. In contrast, Gov. DeSantis won’t even order a simple mask mandate.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki took to Twitter to set the record straight. Psaki noted that Floridians are getting vaccinated now and called on DeSantis to join the administration in this fight. She also noted the percentage of hospitalizations from COVID in Florida.
23% of new COVID hospitalizations in the U.S are in Florida, and their hospitals are being overwhelmed again.

Biden isn’t singling out Florida as DeSantis suggested. COVID-19 is singling out Florida over a lack of taking simple safety precautions. This didn’t have to be this hard. The Biden administration was flattening the coronavirus curve; then Republicans basically sabotaged the president’s efforts. And if you’re like me, you are pissed the hell off about that. We started to see our normal lives coming back, then bam; we have to start over. Yeah, I blame the unvaccinated for this hell they’re putting us through. I think that most of us do.
