JD Vance’s interview on The Joe Rogan Experience did not go well for him. Instead of making a good impression, the Republican vice presidential nominee struggled to answer basic questions. The topic of abortion showed that Vance may not understand the real issues women face. Even Joe Rogan, who is known for his bold opinions, had to correct him.
During their three-hour talk, Rogan brought up tough state laws on abortion. He talked about states like Texas, where women could get in trouble for going out of state for an abortion. Rogan said, “That’s concerning to me, if there’s a place in the country where it’s legal to have a medical procedure and you live in a state where it’s not legal that your state can decide what you can and can’t do with your body.”
Vance seemed surprised and unsure. He said, “I don’t like the idea, to be clear. I’ve not heard of this, maybe as like a possibility, but not as something that actually exists in the law.” It was strange that Vance, who wants to help lead the country, did not know about these laws.
Rogan then talked about the end of Roe v. Wade, which had protected abortion rights for years. He said, “Now you have these religious men who are trying to dictate what women can or cannot do with their bodies.” Vance replied, “At the very best, if you grant I think every argument of the pro-choice side, it is a neutral thing, not something to be celebrated.”

Rogan quickly replied, “I think there’s very few people who are celebrating, though.” Vance then tried to shift the blame to social media, saying that echo chambers make it seem that way.
Previously, when Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, Vance was happy about it. He even compared abortion to slavery on a right-wing radio show. He also said that Donald Trump would stop federal funding for Planned Parenthood if Trump wins the election again.
Vance’s answers on Rogan’s show showed that he might not understand what many women are facing. Some women, like Kate Cox in Texas, had to leave their state to get necessary medical care. This is real life, not just theory.
Vance made another strange comment on the show. He said he and Trump could win the “normal gay guy vote.” Vance said, “Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if me and Trump won just the normal gay guy vote, because again, they just want to be left the hell alone.”
This comment confused many people. Former Republican turned pundit Ron Fillipowski joked, “Like George Santos maybe?” Andy Cohen, a famous TV host, tweeted, “Sashay away.”
Vance says Trump is going to win “the normal gay guy vote.” Like George Santos maybe? Joe Exotic just asked Trump to give amnesty to his new fiancé who is Mexican. Maybe he’s a “normal” gay guy. Or does he mean all the closeted Republicans who are married to women? https://t.co/GXsunrti0e

Vance’s interview with Joe Rogan did not help him look good. It showed that he doesn’t fully understand the problems people face today. For someone who wants to be vice president, this is a big issue.
