The illusion looks tired

Donald Trump loves describing himself as energetic, sharp and physically unstoppable. But the new photos now going viral online are making that sales pitch a little harder to pull off.

The images show Trump standing at a microphone with American flags behind him, his face visibly puffy, his complexion uneven and his expression heavy. Once the photos hit X, the replies quickly started sounding very similar.

The photos are arriving with plenty of baggage already attached.

Just days earlier, close-up images from Trump’s Beijing state visit had gone viral after photographers captured visible bruising and discoloration on his right hand, with observers noting what appeared to be heavy concealer applied unevenly across the skin.

Aaron Rupar posted the image on X with the caption: “A look at Trump’s disfigured right hand as pictured yesterday by Kent Nishimura of AFP.”

The White House has not issued a medical explanation for any of it.

Earlier this month, close-up footage from a rally captured what observers described as significant sagging around his chin and neck area, prompting one person to write: “I’ve said it before and I actually think he’s turning into Jabba the Hutt before our eyes.”

The comment sections under presidential photos have developed their own running vocabulary and it has been growing steadily since January.

That conversation picked up even more steam after the White House posted an image from the Temple of Heaven visit that inadvertently showed Trump’s right hand covered in what observers identified as a strange beige substance inconsistent with his skin tone.

Against all of that, the official medical record remains optimistic. The White House has confirmed an annual physical examination is scheduled for May 26 at Walter Reed, a date now carrying more public weight than such appointments typically do.
