Does Donald Trump think his wife’s name is “Melody”? No, but you might get that impression from a brief controversy earlier this month.

In a May 6 speech at the White House for Mother’s Day, while recognizing a war widow named “Melody,” he mentioned that he used to mistakenly call his wife Melania “Melody” in social media posts, thanks to Autocorrect errors.

“They said ‘he didn’t know the name of his wife!’ He keeps calling her MELODY!,” Trump said in that speech. “‘What the hell is wrong with this machine?!’ I didn’t know about that little feature, but I got that corrected eventually.” Trump even said he got “the military” involved to fix the problem.

According to a Daily Express story this week, that episode led some to ask questions about whether the president could be losing his cognitive abilities, especially because it’s hard to imagine why “the military” would be involved with fixing the autocorrect function on the president’s phone.
