Lawyers For Matt Gaetz’s Old Wingman Put The DOJ On Blast For Dragging Their Feet On Charges Against “Rich, Republican” Congressman In Sex Trafficking Scandal

I mean... It's time for some answers here.

Florida’s MAGA Congressman Matt Gaetz is still walking around as a free man, living his best life, he even recently won his bid for reelection to the House in his district — and the legal team for his former associate and “wingman” want to know why.

Joel Greenberg spent many years as one of Gaetz’s closest associates, personal friends, and so-called wingman. The corrupt former Seminole County tax official was ultimately indicted on charges related to an underage sex trafficking scheme that he has credibly accused the Republican congressman of being deeply involved and embroiled in. Yet, still to this day, Matt Gaetz is walking around a free man.

Today, the Daily Beast obtained and published a copy of a new court filing from Greenberg’s attorney Fritz Scheller, in which the lawyer likens the US Justice Department’s failure to prosecute and indict Congressman Matt Gaetz on charges related to the sex trafficking scheme to “Nero fiddling away as Rome burns.”

Scheller went on to openly blast the Department of Justice for essentially destroying the life of the local tax official — though, we will note, Greenberg unequivocally deserved every ounce of trouble he got or will get in the future — yet has seemingly refused to do the same to the “popular, rich, Republican” House Representative who has stood credibly accused from multiple sources of being engaged in the very same underage sex trafficking scheme that took Greenberg down for life.

The attorney’s court filing reads:

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida is the only DOJ office to have brought multiple prosecutions based on Greenberg’s cooperation. Perhaps the DOJ will return the prosecutions to the capable hands of U.S. Attorneys in the Middle District or the State of Florida.”

Ultimately, Scheller went so far as to seemingly suggest that the local courts would do a more competent, fair, and thorough job at prosecuting the congressman than the DOJ has thus far.

Reports that came out earlier this year suggested that, while Gaetz of course vehemently denies any and all allegations lodged against him, he allegedly begged Donald Trump during the final days of his presidency to issue what would have essentially been a blanket pardon for any crimes the congressman may or may not have committed before the end of Trump’s term.
