Me thinks thou doth protest too much ...

Every time Marjorie Taylor Greene says something, I feel like I’m reliving Kevin Hart’s reaction to Don Cheadle’s age—complete disbelief. She’s tripping, y’all. And her latest comments on X (formerly Twitter) are no exception.

Recently, Greene retweeted a video attacking Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, accusing him of wanting children to read porn in school. She escalated the rhetoric, claiming that Democrats have made “p*rn in elementary schools a top LGBTQ priority” and labeled the party as “the party of pedophiles.” These comments are beyond detestable—they’re reckless and baseless.

Greene’s behavior isn’t just vile; it’s hypocritical. For someone who claims to represent family values and conservative principles, her alliance with Donald Trump and figures like Matt Gaetz makes her accusations even more absurd. Trump, her political idol, was a known associate of Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender who trafficked underage girls. Meanwhile, Gaetz has been under investigation for allegedly paying underage girls for sex in a “sugar baby” arrangement. Greene conveniently ignores these facts while throwing out inflammatory accusations against Democrats. The hypocrisy stinks.

Her comments are not only divisive but also destructive to any possibility of collaboration in politics. How can Greene ever work with Democrats if she’s branding them as pedophiles? I wouldn’t. But, of course, they’re not pedophiles. She’s just creating a toxic and hostile environment that makes progress impossible. Her role in politics is not about conserving anything—it’s about tearing others down. Greene isn’t a conservative; she’s a broken woman weaponizing hate and division for political gain. She’s a loudmouth troll who thrives on chaos, making it clear that her only goal is to alienate and attack.

The larger issue here is the hypocrisy surrounding the so-called “defenders of freedom.” Greene and others in her camp talk about freedom, yet they are the loudest voices calling for the banning of books in schools. Let’s be clear: banning books isn’t freedom. It’s censorship. It’s an assault on intellectual liberty, preventing children from accessing diverse perspectives, whether about race, LGBTQ+ issues, or historical truths. Freedom means having the choice to read, learn, and decide for yourself—not having the state censor what you’re allowed to see.

But the hypocrisy doesn’t stop with the Republicans. Democrats, too, push for restrictions in ways that curb personal freedoms. They advocate for stricter gun control, and figures like Elizabeth Warren are trying to regulate financial freedom by heavily regulating cryptocurrency; (you no longer require a bank to hold your own money). Warren’s proposals would give the U.S. government more control over people’s financial transactions, sacrificing individual privacy. So when either party talks about “freedom,” take it with a grain of salt—they’re often more interested in control than in liberty.

Both parties are guilty of putting limits on freedom when it serves their political agenda. Republicans want to control women’s bodies and decide whether they can get an abortion, and Democrats are perfectly fine with surveilling every financial transaction you make. Neither side is serious about freedom—they’re hypocrites. Both talk a big game about liberty, but they’re quick to curtail it when it suits their goals.

True conservatism is about empowering local governments to make decisions for themselves. It’s the idea that the closer a government is to the people it governs, the better. This philosophy can work well in practice. If parents in San Francisco want their children reading books about having two moms, they should have the freedom to do so. If parents in Athens, Georgia, don’t want that, they should have the local power to restrict it based on their values.

But when you have people like Ron DeSantis, who overrides local decisions from cities and counties with state-level mandates, (and here) it’s a clear example of power being taken away from the people. DeSantis has repeatedly used state authority to crush local control, especially when it comes to education. This isn’t conservatism—this is authoritarianism masked as “freedom.”

In the end, neither party is honest about their views on freedom. They love to talk about liberty, but they’re both all too eager to strip it away when it fits their agenda. Marjorie Taylor Greene isn’t a conservative—she’s just a destructive force pushing hate and division, making real progress impossible. She’s a disgrace to the idea of working together in a democracy.
