MAGA Melts Down After Mariachi Band Plays The Star-Spangled Banner During Monday Night Football

Last season, the announcement that Bad Bunny would perform the Super Bowl halftime show — and the mostly Spanish-language show itself — sparked a huge pop culture conflagration, even as Bad Bunny’s show was well received by the non-MAGA crowd.

Now, another performance in an NFL stadium has set off a similar reaction.

On Monday night, before the ESPN Monday Night Football game at Chicago’s Soldier Field between the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles, a mariachi band called The Mariachi Herencia de México performed the national anthem, clad in sombreros.

Formed in Chicago, the band’s website describes them as a two-time Latin Grammy-nominated band that “has issued six chart-topping albums and has performed all across the North American continent, paving the way for a new generation of mariachi musicians.”

CBS News reported that they are the first mariachi band to perform the anthem at Soldier Field, a stadium that’s more than 100 years old.

Some MAGA NFL fans on social media reacted less than positively to the choice of national anthem singer.
