One big-name star has signed on for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Carrie Underwood is scheduled to sing America The Beautiful at the shindig, where we hope nothing illegal happens since Trump’s first inauguration was on the straight and narrow, right? (Please note this is sarcasm, m’kay?)
I’m sure this is a big disappointment for any progressive fans Underwood has, if there are such beasts. This is, after all, the first time Underwood has announced her support for Trump. But there have apparently been signs. Vulture.com reports that Underwood indicated she didn’t like people trying to “pin me places politically.” “I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins.”
But now the country star has changed her tune. Sadly.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” said Underwood in a statement. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
Underwood also appears to doubt the effectiveness of COVID vaccines, standing with her husband, ex-NHL player Mike Fisher, who supported Aaron Rodgers’s decision to avoid vaccination. Underwood also liked a video from conservative influencer Matt Walsh, who advocated against masks.

You may remember that Trump had a difficult time finding talent to perform at his 2017 inauguration. The late Toby Keith, an avid Trumper was on hand but big names like Elton John and Garth Brooks solidly said nope. That’s in sharp contrast to Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration, which featured Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Brooks.
While some on social media were copacetic with Underwood’s support of the incoming president, there were plenty who weren’t.

I have no idea if Underwood’s career will suffer as a result of this, but I’m not going to be listening to her any time soon. I’ll stay with Garth Brooks, thank you.
Update: RadarOnline is reporting that Underwood is now facing backlash, with folks excoriating her, saying things like: “Disgusting, never thought she’d sink that low,” as one reacted, “It’s incredibly outrageous that Carrie Underwood would show up to play at Trump’s inauguration….”
Well, it’s what she gets for supporting a fascist.
