Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), a staunch defender of Donald Trump’s, lashed out during the hearing of the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday after Constitutional experts testified in favor of impeaching the “president.” Gaetz’s latest defense for Trump was to say that former President Barack Obama is the one who should be impeached, because of course he did. Apparently, Gaetz is a tad bit confused as to whose impeachment inquiry is taking place.
Trump’s allies have tried to hammer witnesses, but the Republicans’ only witness appeared to lie under oath and contradicted himself several times. So, Gaetz apparently decided to toss the Obama card into the mix by spinning a conspiracy theory.
Trump has repeatedly and without evidence claimed that the FBI inserted covert operators in his campaign and has alleged that former President Barack Obama had intelligence officials tap his phones, but the Justice Department’s inspector general has found no evidence to support that.
Gaetz inserted that preposterous conspiracy theory at the hearing, claiming that — checks notes — Obama should be impeached for wiretapping Trump.

Politico’s Jake Sherman tweeted in response to Gaetz’s bizarre outburst.

Gaetz responded in a tweet to say “You actually can impeach a former President.”

While Rep. Drunky McDrunkerson is technically correct, but he was speaking at Donald Trump’s impeachment hearing, not Barack Obama’s, so his “No, you!” defense just doesn’t cut the mustard. And it also makes him look like a tiny man without a defense for a shameless president who has abused the power of the highest seat in the land. While Trump claimed that Obama wiretapped his phones, the current occupant of the White House has never provided evidence of that, and the IG report is expected to undercut the former reality show star’s claims.
if we took a shot every time Trump has baselessly made a claim about his predecessor, we’d all die of alcohol poisoning. However, that might be a better fate than having to listen to Gaetz whine like a petulant child.
