Matt Gaetz Is Reportedly Interested In Offering Kyle Rittenhouse A Job As A Congressional Intern, And We Can’t Hide Our Disgust

It sure seems like Republicans are trying to make a hero of Kyle Rittenhouse, who, at 17 years old, shot two men to death and wounded a third during a tumultuous night of protests against racial injustice in the summer of 2020. And no matter what you think of Rittenhouse, I think most people can agree that he had no business bringing a semi-automatic rifle to a demonstration amid racial tensions. Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz is the latest to put Rittenhouse on a pedestal and went as far as to suggest that he would reach out to the Kenosha shooter to hire him as a Congressional intern.

In an interview on Newsmax on Wednesday, the Florida Republican defended Rittenhouse, saying he deserved a “not guilty” verdict even as the jury deliberates the verdict. And that was just before the host defended the QAnon Shaman, Jake Chansley, after he was sentenced to 41 months in prison for his part in the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6.

“He deserves a not guilty verdict, and I sure hope he gets it because you know what, Kyle Rittenhouse would probably make a pretty good congressional intern,” Gaetz said. “We may reach out to him and see if he’d be interested in helping the country in additional ways.”

Watch:

Like the Newsmax host, Gaetz defended the QAnon Shaman, calling him a “relatively harmless, nonviolent vegan.”

“The notion that he’s got to be in prison for three-and-a-half years to settle some sort of political score defies justice,” Gaetz said. “The American people deserve a Department of Justice that is the least political agency in Washington, and instead what we’ve got is a Department of Justice that is the most political agency in Washington.”

Republicans want us to forget about Trump’s attempted coup on Jan. 6, with one Congressman even suggesting that the deadly Capitol riot was just like a “normal tourist visit.” Rep. Paul Gosar was censured yesterday for tweeting out a disturbing photoshopped anime video showing him appearing to murder Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and violently attacking President Joe Biden. It certainly seems like Republicans are determined to make Congress a dangerous place.
