Matt Gaetz Said He Asked Trump For Approval To Propose To His Now-Wife, Who He Just Eloped With Amid Trafficking Probe

This is just weird.

In case you hadn’t already heard the big news, scandal-ridden Florida Republican House Rep. Matt Gaetz just recently got hitched to his fiancé of a whole hot second, Ginger Luckey — with the two eloping on a whim over the weekend as Gaetz continues to wade through the federal sex trafficking probe that’s still raging against him.

But, as it turns out, Gaetz apparently asked disgraced ex-President Donald Trump for his approval before even popping the question to the poor gal.

Gaetz, 39, met Ginger, 26, at a dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in March 2020 and went on to propose to her, to which she said yes, at the very same resort in December of the same year.

Speaking with Vanity Fair of his decision to run it by Trump before asking for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage, the Florida Republican explained, “You never want to upstage the big guy.” Gaetz went on to add that Trump referred to him and his then-fiancé as “a dynamic duo” and sent a bottle of his company’s champagne to their table.

Gaetz, of course, is still neck-deep in a federal investigation hailing from his association with known-sex trafficker, Joel Greenberg. Greenberg is a former Seminole County, Florida tax collector who recently pleaded guilty to six different federal crimes, including sex trafficking of a child. He’s also well-known as Matt’s former wingman. Greenberg recently took a plea deal in which he agreed to cooperate with investigators on a much larger-scale sex trafficking probe.

Gaetz himself is currently under investigation for allegedly violating sex trafficking laws as well as having sex with an underage girl of 17. Gaetz has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in the allegations against him.

Matt and Ginger had previously indicated that they would be getting married in August 2020, but ended up eloping on Catalina Island in California over the weekend — leading many to believe that Gaetz is attempting to weasel his way out of some trouble, in hopes that his now-wife can’t be made to testify against him.
