McConnell Doesn’t Appear To Be In Rush To Approve COVID Relief Aid, Claims He Will Focus On Confirming More Trump Judges When Senate Returns In May

It's time to ditch Mitch.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) doesn’t care about the suffering of the American people as the coronavirus pandemic rips through their lives. The only thing he cares about is stacking the courts with right-wing judges.

Democrats are pushing for a new stimulus package to help state and local governments that are quickly running out of funding, along with money for more testing and additional relief checks for individuals to help them get through this rough time.

McConnell should be focusing on passing that legislation as quickly as possible, but he would rather focus on non-essential business instead as he openly stated during an interview with Hugh Hewitt.

The Kentucky Republican told Hewitt that the number one priority that Senate Republicans will focus on when Congress is back in session will be the confirmation of more of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominees in an effort to seize control of the federal courts.

“The current plan is to go back in session on May the 4th,” McConnell said. “I haven’t seen anything that would discourage me from doing that. And as soon as we get back in session, we’ll start confirming judges again. We need to have hearings, and we need to confirm judges. Hugh, you and I have discussed this before. My motto for the year is ‘leave no vacancy behind.’ That hasn’t changed. The pandemic will not prevent us from achieving that goal.”

But it most certainly should, because nothing is more important right now than for the Senate to work on passing additional and desperately needed aid for the American people in this time of crisis.

“This is all they care about: stacking courts with ideologically extreme judges to roll back our rights for decades,” Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights CEO Vanita Gupta wrote on Twitter. “We can’t stand for it.”

Clearly, the Senate should be dealing with the current worldwide crisis instead of using it as cover to push through their judicial agenda. Americans need help. People are dying. And the suffering will only get worse the longer Senate Republicans refuse to act.
