Mitt Romney Offers A Troubling Prediction For The Republican Party in 2024

This is troubling.

Let’s face it, folks, we have not seen the last of Donald J. Trump. The former real estate “mogul” and reality TV washup got his first taste of true power when he managed to weasel his way into the United States presidency, and there’s simply not a chance in Hell that he’ll be walking away from that anytime soon. While the 2020 election certainly burned him badly and saved us from 8 consecutive years of torture and despair, thanks to the Republican sycophants in Congress who refused to convict him even after he incited a literal riot at the Capitol building, we are far from out of the woods yet.

Trump made it crystal clear even before he left the White House in his first term that he would be back. Since departing the presidency, Donald has stuck to that narrative rather firmly. There’s just no denying that Donald Trump will be back with a vengeance come 2024.

Utah GOP Senator Mitt Romney spoke with the New York Times yesterday and noted that Donald Trump is a far cry from politically crippled before he gave his own troubling prediction on what exactly that may mean for his party.

“I don’t know if he’ll run in 2024 or not, but if he does, I’m pretty sure he will win the nomination,” Romney told the Times, going on to add that polls show “if you put President Trump in there among Republicans, he wins in a landslide.”

Romney, one of the very few staunch Republican critics of Donald Trump’s and the only GOP member of Congress to vote in favor of a conviction in his Senate trial, explained that despite his prediction and his party alignment he would not be helping Trump secure another win.

“I would not be voting for President Trump again. I haven’t voted for him in the past,” Romney stated. “I would probably be getting behind somebody who I thought more represented the tiny wing of the Republican Party that I represent.”

So far, Trump’s plans for 2024 have not apparently been solidified.

After a meeting with the former president in Florida earlier this week, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham had this to say about a potential 2024 run for Donald Trump: “Stay tuned.”

However, Romney noted that even if the former president doesn’t take another stab at the White House, he fully expects Trump to continue to hold sway within the party.

“He has, by far, the largest voice and a big impact in my party,” Romney said to the Times. “I don’t know about his family members, whether they intend to do that, but I expect he will continue playing a role.”
