New Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders Pulls A Page From Trump Playbook, Appoints Her Own Husband To Head An AR State Advisory Council

Imagine that.

It seems an uncanny ability to breathe out copious amounts of hot air while not actually saying anything intelligible whatsoever isn’t the only thing former Trump Administration Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders inherited from her old boss Donald Trump. From the looks of new reporting out of Huckabee Sanders’ home state of Arkansas, she’s quite well-versed and proficient at Trump-level nepotism as well.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders resigned from her press secretary position — in which she stood behind the podium in the press briefing room so rarely that the piece of furniture actually collected a thick layer of dust — within the Trump Administration in 2019, citing her desire to spend more time with her family and her children, as rumors swirled of an impending gubernatorial run, which Trump himself fully supported and encouraged.

That gubernatorial campaign eventually did come to fruition, and Huckabee Sanders was sworn in as Arkansas’ governor in 2023, following in her father Mike Huckabee’s footsteps, who served as governor from 1996 to 2007.

The ink has barely dried on Sarah’s new gubernatorial position, yet she’s already making some seriously bold moves, as she appoints her own husband as the head of a new state advisory council.

Arkansas Democrat Gazette reports that Sarah has officially appointed her husband, AR’s First Gentleman Bryan Sanders, as the head of a new Arkansas council with the purpose of promoting outdoor recreation and increasing tourism in the state.

The local publication reports:

The governor signed an executive order establishing the Natural State Initiative and Natural State Advisory Council, where Bryan Sanders will serve as chair. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the effort will be part of an emphasis in her administration on promoting the state’s numerous highly attended parks, rivers and hunting grounds to boost tourism and public health.

The Republican governor said the advisory council will work to give the state ‘a better blueprint’ for how to promote outdoor recreation. She has not yet appointed the other members who will make up the council.”

The publication further notes that Bryan Sanders will not be receiving a salary as chair of the Natural State Initiative and Natural State Advisory Council, the position will be unpaid for the First Gentleman.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders herself spoke on her husband’s appointment and said, “He brings a passion and energy to this space that is second to none. Nobody will be more devoted and more committed to making sure this is successful.”

I suppose Trump taught her well.
