Newsweek has published President Donald Trump’s state-by-state approval ratings, and it’s not good news for the president ahead of the midterm elections.
Citing Civiqs’ rolling tracking poll, Newsweek compared Trump’s current approval rating with that of where it stood when he returned to the White House. It shows Trump underwater in more than 40 states, including every battleground state.
“Nationally, Trump stands at 33 percent approval and 61 percent disapproval, giving him a net approval rating (those who approve minus those who disapprove) of minus 28,” the polling said. Just nine states give Trump a positive approval rating.
According to the map, Trump is -49 in California, -42 in New York, -37 in Illinois, and -36 in Minnesota. But he’s also -19 in Texas, -16 in Florida, -21 in Iowa, -24 in Michigan, -20 in Wisconsin, and -23 in Pennsylvania, all of which are states he won in 2024.

The only states where Trump is in positive territory are the nation’s reddest: West Virginia, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, North Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. But Trump is only up by a couple of points in Idaho and Montana, and is in negative territory in Utah and South Dakota.
“Wyoming remains Trump’s best-performing state with a net approval rating of +19. North Dakota follows at +11, while West Virginia and Arkansas are both at +9. Alabama stands at +5. Idaho and Kansas are at +2, while Oklahoma and Montana are narrowly positive at +1,” Newsweek said. “Those are the only states where more voters approve than disapprove of Trump’s performance.”

“Even there, support is notably weaker than at the start of his second term. Wyoming has fallen from +47 to +19. North Dakota has dropped from +34 to +11. West Virginia has moved from +35 to +9,” Newsweek said.
There are also fault lines in the president’s support.
“Women disapprove of Trump’s performance by a 65-to-29 margin, while men are more divided, with 55 percent disapproving and 37 percent approving,” Newsweek said. “Education remains another fault line. Among postgraduates, approval stands at 22 percent while 73 percent disapprove. Among non-college graduates, approval rises to 36 percent but still trails disapproval.”
