The day Donald Trump was officially and permanently banned from Twitter was, frankly, one of the most celebratory-worthy days of my life. Finally, it seemed, he was at least somewhat held accountable for his heinous actions. Was it the huge indictment and/or impeachment that he deserves? No. But it was something. He finally suffered some consequences and it felt damn good to witness.
And as it turns out, we weren’t the only ones to feel that way.
According to the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman, many of Trump’s own fellow Republicans were, and remain “thrilled” that America’s dictator no longer has access to his Twitter platform from which he regularly wreaked havoc on the nation and his own party — secretly agreeing with GOP pariah Liz Cheney. Though, of course, pretty much none of them are ready nor willing to go public with this fact.
Haberman notes that, of course, not all Republicans harbor this secret disdain for the disgraced former guy. However, the number of them who do is likely more significant than most realize.

“What [Cheney] says about the number of lawmakers who also resent him, who feel as if he has his boot on their necks, who feel as if they’re going to get threatened and are thrilled that he doesn’t have his Twitter feed anymore, that’s real too,” the NYT reporter revealed.
With all that being said, though, the majority of these GOPers still fear the ramifications from their own voters should they publicly decry or even disagree with Donald Trump.
“At the moment, the party’s base is with the former president, and contrary to predictions that that was going to change when he left office, we haven’t seen that,” Haberman explained. “If anything, we have seen the number of Republicans who have, you know, bought into his falsehoods about the last election have also grown.”
