Prince Charles of Wales seemed to channel his inner, clumsy Donald Trump today when he was caught on video footage appearing to trip up the stairs at the COP26 climate change conference.
Over the years that Trump was in the public’s eye thanks to his world leader position in the White House, we watched him trip, stumble, and nearly fall more times than I can even keep up with now. In fact, he had a special knack, it seemed, for doing so when he was at some sort of important event with his fellow world leaders.
Today, Prince Charles seemed to suffer from the same unfortunate luck, when the 72-year-old just barely eluded what would have likely been a rather serious fall when he stumbled on his way to the stage at COP26, where he was delivering a speech on climate change.
The Prince of Whales was making his way to the stage, which featured a few steps up to the podium when his foot seemed to catch on a step — causing him to lose his balance and take a somewhat worrisome stumble. Charles was ultimately able to regain his balance and composure and right himself, without taking a serious fall on the stairs — which would have likely been dangerous given his age.

The crowd watched, looking rather concerned for a few moments before Prince Charles corrected himself and finished his journey to the podium.
While the royal was ultimately unscathed in the tumble, it did seem to shake his nerves a bit just moments before his big climate change speech.
Ultimately, the future monarch was able to proceed with his speech, and use the event to warn of climate change dangers.
“I know you all carry a heavy burden on your shoulders and you do not need me to tell you the eyes and hopes of the world are upon you,” the Prince said in his speech.
“We know this will take trillions, not billions of dollars… we need a vast military-style campaign to marshal the strength of the financial sector.”
So, while Charles may have channeled his inner Donald Trump when it came to tackling the stairs, at least he seems to have more sense than the former American “leader” in the climate change department.
