Donald Trump’s Secretary of Defense Mark Esper has prepared a letter of resignation, according to NBC News, that cited three current defense officials with knowledge of the situation. Although the two have been at odds before, the timing is interesting. It’s doubtful that our narcissistic president will handle the rejection well as he appears to be losing his bid for reelection to Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
“It’s not uncommon for Cabinet secretaries to prepare undated letters of resignation during a presidential transition, giving the commander in chief the chance to replace them for a second term,” the outlet reports. “The president decides whether to accept the resignation letters, and the process usually occurs after the election results are clear.”
However, it appears that Esper knows that Trump will lose to Biden.
“But defense officials say Esper prepared his letter because he is one of the Cabinet officials long expected to be pushed out after the election,” the report states.

“As his tenure may be coming to an end, Esper is helping members of Congress draft legislation that will strip names of Confederate leaders from military bases in a move that could put him further at odds with President Donald Trump,” the outlet continues.
Trump has long been opposed to confederate statues being removed — except for former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, that is. Instead of easing racial tension in the United States, Trump has stoked the flames. He’s an arsonist running to his bunker for safety after starting a fire; then, he runs out of the structure to yell at everyone that got burned. Esper is merely trying to put out the fire that Trump set ablaze, apparently.
Unlike Trump, Esper served in the military and is a recipient of the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service. We’re not sure why he tied himself to this highly toxic administration, though. Citing the Trump administration won’t make a good résumé for future jobs. It certainly wouldn’t be too surprising to see more officials jumping ship as the Trump Titanic sinks. Trump has been trying to claim victory even though Biden is within reach of claiming the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the White House.
