Republican Governor Claims Trump Called South Koreans “Terrible People” In Front Of His Wife, Who Happens To Be From South Korea

Only Trump would refer to a longtime friend and ally of the United States as 'terrible people.'

Donald Trump likes to brag about his relationship with South Korea, but the reality is that he thinks they are “terrible people,” according to Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R).

Trump denies it publicly, but he’s a racist and he knows it. That could not be more clear based on his remarks about the Black Lives Matter movement, his attempts to mimic an unspecified Asian accent, his remarks about “sh*thole” countries, his Muslim travel ban, and his caging of Hispanic children at the border.

It turns out that Hogan witnessed Trump disparaging the South Koreans even as Hogan’s South Korean wife Yumi sat in attendance of the long-winded speech.

“He talked about how much he respected President Xi Jinping of China; how much he liked playing golf with his buddy ‘Shinzo,’ Prime Minister Abe of Japan; how well he got along with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un,” Hogan wrote in an op-ed for the Washington Post. “Then, the jarring part: Trump said he really didn’t like dealing with President Moon from South Korea. The South Koreans were ‘terrible people,’ he said, and he didn’t know why the United States had been protecting them all these years. ‘They don’t pay us,’ Trump complained.”

The South Koreans have been a good friend and ally to our nation for several decades, and protecting them from North Korea also protects our other allies in the region. But it’s especially insulting because Yumi Hogan was “sitting there as the president hurled insults at her birthplace.”

And it’s even more awkward now because Yumi Hogan was instrumental in helping Maryland make a deal with South Korea for coronavirus testing kits, which the Trump administration had failed to provide the state themselves. Governor Hogan also had to hide PPE gear and use the National Guard to protect it from being seized by Trump.

Clearly, South Korea came to the aid of Maryland when Trump would not. That makes Trump the truly terrible person.
