Unsettling new reporting from the Daily Mail this afternoon has revealed that Republican Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, a GOP House Rep. out of Indiana, has died in a car crash today.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s office has confirmed the reporting, revealing that Walorski was one of 4 victims in the fatal car accident that took place this afternoon. Walorski passed as a result of the crash, along with her communication director, 28-year-old Washington, D.C. resident Emma Thomson, and the 27-year-old St. Joseph County Republican Chair Zachery Potts, of Mishawaka, Indiana, who were also killed.

According to the heartbreaking report, 58-year-old House Rep. Walorski was headed southbound in Elkhart County, Indiana, with her two aides in the car. The report states that a northbound vehicle crossed over the center line, into Walorski’s lane, ultimately crashing into the lawmaker’s vehicle head-on. In addition to Walorski, Thomson, and Potts, the driver of the northbound vehicle that struck the congresswoman’s car, 56-year-old Edith Schmucker, was also killed in the fatal crash.

Following the catastrophic crash, Walorski’s office released a statement on the matter:

Dean Swihart, Jackie’s husband, was just informed by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s office that Jackie was killed in a car crash this afternoon. She has returned to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Walorski served in Indiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2013. Local South Bend Tribune reports that the fatal car crash is still under investigation by the Elkhart County police.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
