Secretary Of State Pompeo Responds To Reporter’s Claims He Shouted And Cursed At Her, Doesn’t Deny It And Appears To Make It Worse

This is absolutely unacceptable.

As of yesterday, a few members of the Trump administration are undoubtedly now wishing that someone, at some point in their lives, had taught them how to keep their damn mouths shut — or at the very least, check for a recording device before you open it.

Trump himself was the first “victim” of not one, but two secret audio recordings released to the public yesterday that once again showcased just how sickening our “president” truly is.

The first recording to rock the public yesterday appeared to capture Trump in a conversation with former Giuliani associates Igor Fruman and Lev Parnas, in which a voice almost undoubtedly belonging to the president can be heard saying “Take her out!” in regard to former Ukraine ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch — a bombshell revelation that destroys both his claims that he had no personal vendetta against Yovanovitch as well as his claim that he doesn’t know/has never met/has never spoken to the former henchmen of his personal attorney who’s become such a wild card for his defense.

Later in the day, Trump was once again busted on some unsavory conversation when a recording of a recent Mar-a-Lago dinner appeared to capture him whining because Conan the dog “got more credit” than he did for the Baghdadi killing.

But Donald Trump wasn’t the only member of that shitshow administration who found out the hard way that someone’s been keeping their receipts.

Yesterday evening we reported that CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale, on behalf of NPR reporter Mary Louise Kelly, tweeted a summary of a recent interview that Kelly held with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in his home — which Dale has stated was directly related to him by Kelly herself — and frankly, it wasn’t pretty.

According to Dale’s recounting of the event, Pompeo threatened to and then proceeded to follow through with testing Kelly’s geographical knowledge by forcing her to point Ukraine out on a map that he just so happened to have handily laying close by. Kelly recounted to Dale that Pompeo shouted at her for every bit as long as he answered her questions for the interview, used extremely foul language with her, and then left her with the threat, “people will hear about this.”

Dale’s summary of the event told to him by Kelly wasn’t the end of it, though. A summary recounting leaves room for disputes. However, real audio does not:

Frankly, my team and I have been waiting since the news broke last night to see what Pompeo had to say for himself. Would he ignore the bombshell revelation much as his dear leader has done thus far? Or would he blow up in shaky, toxic masculinity fueled defense of himself, because God knows a legitimate apology was never on the table?

Unsurprisingly, the Secretary of State went with the latter.

In a statement released by his spokesperson this morning, Pompeo went full-on mad old white dude in response to the audio recording that was released against him yesterday.

He kicked things off by accusing Kelly of lying to him repeatedly, because I suppose in his mind that’s an excuse for such behavior, before going on to not apologize, not express his regret for treating a human being in such a vile manner, and to bitch about the fact that his temper-tantrum was recorded at all and then wrap things up with a blanket complaint about the media as a whole.

I don’t have words for the disrespect that comes out of this fucked up administration. I can only hope that Mary Louise Kelly knows we stand behind her in solidarity, and I pray that this shitshow will be over soon.
