Senate Chaplain Appears To Call Out Republicans During Proceedings: “For We Always Reap What We Sow”

I can only hope that God heard his prayers.

The Senate impeachment trial has turned out to be just exactly what droves of GOP Senators promised it would be — a complete and total sham. A joke. A laugh in the face of what was once this nation’s core values. The rules and principles that this country was built on.

Americans have been screaming as much from every rooftop from California to New York. Democrats in every branch of the government, and even a few select Republicans who have dared to break from their party, have been pulling out all the stops, every little trick they have up their sleeves, to put a stop to the corruption, the blatant disregard for the oath to our Constitution that every single member of the government took. There have been protests and petitions and walkouts and sit-ins and books and articles and op-eds and ads. Yet here we are. Still. Facing down a level of deceit, deception, and criminality that, frankly, this nation has never seen before.

So, when Chaplain Barry Black, the Senate chaplain for the past 30 years, took to the Senate floor this morning to deliver a prayer before today’s proceedings, it appeared as though he took the opportunity to make it known to the GOP Senators who filled the room with ironically bowed heads while calling upon the highest power he believes in, that they will reap what they sow.

Black began his prayer by inadvertently pointing out to the members of Congress that God has already made it clear what they should do, saying in his prayer, “You have summarized ethical behavior in a single sentence. Do for others what you would like them to do for you.”

“Remind our senators that they alone are accountable to you for their conduct,” Black continued in his talk with God, saying to the room full of GOP senators what we’ve all been dying to tell them for months now. “Lord help them to remember, that they can’t ignore you and get away with it. For we always reap what we sow.”

Black didn’t specifically call out the Republican members of the Senate in his prayer today. However, only one group of people is attempting to ignore a whole slew of evidence and witnesses. And it’s not the Democrats.
