Several GOP Senators Reportedly Busted Fundraising For GA Runoff Race Only To Funnel The Money Back To Their Own Campaigns

Why am I not even surprised?

The Georgia runoff elections that are set to take place in just a few days will quite literally shape the face and control of Congress for the next several years — with the potential to finally unseat Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell from his position of power as the Senate Majority Leader and strip the GOP of their power in the Senate. However, despite how important this race is to the GOP, it seems that several Republican senators have unsurprisingly been using the crucial, upcoming election as a way to pad their own political pockets — because, of course.

According to a bombshell report from The Daily Beast, multiple Republican senators, and at least one Democratic senator, have been calling upon their supporters to donate funds as part of their efforts to win the upcoming runoff election in Georgia, only to be funneling the donated money back into their own campaign committees, which have absolutely nothing to do with the races of David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.

The report alleges that the scheme was kickstarted by Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz who was running Facebook ads calling on people to donate money to help him stop the “gun grabbing, tax hikes, open borders, and stacking the Supreme Court” that he claimed would run rampant if Democrats should take control of the Senate in the impending runoff election. However, of course, the money that Cruz raised from these ads actually went directly into his own campaign committee, rather than anything that had to do with the Georgia elections that could effect control in the Senate.

According to the report, multiple other lawmakers, predominantly those that belong to the GOP, including Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), and Reps. Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-WA) and Ashley Hinson (R-IA), have gotten in on the scheme by raising funds that were, at least to some degree, split some way between the upcoming Georgia runoff elections and their own PACs.

To make matters even worse, outgoing-President Donald Trump has allegedly gotten in on the scheme himself, to absolutely no one’s surprise.

The Beast reports:

[Trump’s] political team has been buying Google ads and sending out fundraising emails for weeks declaring the urgent need to hold the GOP Senate majority, and asking for contributions to his own political groups. But the fine print of those solicitations makes clear that a major chunk of the change will be going to Trump’s own committee and a smaller chunk to the Republican National Committee.”

I hope they find this fundraising scheme worth it when they lose their asses and their control in the Senate in just a few short days.
