According to a deeply disturbing new report from Law & Crime, an elderly Georgia sheriff’s deputy has been fired from his position and arrested, as he stands accused of entering a woman’s home and brutally raping her while on duty and in uniform as a law enforcement agent.

Deputy Jerry W. Glover, of Rock Spring, GA, was almost simultaneously fired from his position at the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and arrested on charges of rape, violation of oath of office, and false imprisonment yesterday. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation released a statement noting Glover’s age as 81, however, the ex-deputy’s former boss, Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson told Law & Crime that the former law enforcement officer was actually 80-years-old.

According to the press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Lafayette Police Department called on the GBI on May 11th for help with an investigation into a sheriff’s deputy who stood accused of raping a woman.

“The investigation revealed that Glover had sex with a woman without her consent while on duty and in uniform,” the press release reads.

Wilson spoke with Law & Crime in a phone interview and said that Glover was acquainted with his victim through his work. The Walker County Sheriff also confirmed that Glover was allegedly both on duty and wearing his law enforcement uniform at the time of the assault. Wilson told the publication that the deputy was gone for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Wilson went on to confirm that Glover’s victim reported the alleged assault to the local authorities on the same day.

According to Wilson, per reporting from Nashville Fox affiliate WZTV, Glover allegedly “pulled up to the victim’s home, went inside, forced her to have sex, and then went back into service.”

According to the sheriff, Glover worked at the Walker County Sheriff’s Office in the 1980s and early 1990s and was employed at the Atlanta Police Department before that.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has claimed that they arrested Glover, while Wilson argues that while the GBI secured the warrant for the deputy’s arrest, Glover’s sheriff’s office supervisor actually executed the physical arrest of Glover.

Wilson confirmed that Glover, who served as a court officer, was put on administrative leave as soon as the investigation began, with his previous duties as a court officer including serving civil papers, transporting criminals, and doing courthouse security, according to the sheriff.

A press statement from the sheriff’s office confirmed that Glover was officially fired on Friday, based on information contained in an updated report before being arrested yesterday.

“It’s certainly not the morals that we strive to achieve in this agency,” Wilson responded when questioned by the publication as to how this sort of thing could affect local trust in the police. “I’m very disappointed that he has committed an act that reflects on him, and it does reflect on the entire agency, and on that, I am very sorry.”

Glover was booked into Walker County Jail and denied bond in his first court appearance today. The investigation into the former deputy remains ongoing.
