Some Republican Lawmakers Reportedly Fear The Return Of Trump Rallies Will Destroy Their Election Chances: “This Guy Is A Disaster”

I wonder what gave it away.

It’s over six months since the election, and former President Donald Trump has plans to host rallies again, but privately, Republicans are concerned about that. And they should be worried. After all, the Trump Organization is under criminal investigation. The one-term president was impeached twice. The former president has been deplatformed on social media after inciting the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection.

According to Politico’s Playbook, Even though some Republicans express outrage publically about Trump’s ban on Twitter and Facebook, “GOP lawmakers are privately relieved he no longer has those megaphones. But the resumption of rallies gives Trump a new platform to spout conspiracy theories about the election and air his grievances — at the same time, most Republicans are desperate to move on and talk about the Biden agenda.”

“If we win the majority back in 17 months, it’s going to be in spite of Trump — not because of Trump,” one senior House Republican aide for a lawmaker who is considered one of Trump’s top supporters on Capitol Hill told the outlet. “He will totally take credit if we win the House back — but it won’t be because of him. This guy is a disaster.”

“The problem: Since when has Trump ever stuck to policy? Most Republicans are expecting a rerun of the oldies: false claims of voter fraud, witch hunts and the like — only to be hounded by reporters for their comment on the outrage of the moment,” the outlet reports.

“I do think that’s going to be fatiguing with people, and eventually folks besides the most hardcore are going to say, ‘Okay, it’s time to move on,’” Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) said. “My hope is that actually in those rallies, people realize this is starting to get nuts.”

Republicans asked for this since Trump could have been barred from running for any federal office, including president, if he had been convicted in one of his two impeachment trials, but most of them gave him a pass. And Senate Republicans are expected to block a bill creating a commission to investigate the insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6. Meaning, once again, they’re giving the former president a pass. The fact is that Trump was a disaster when he campaigned for president, so holding more ego rallies six months after Americans rejected him at the polls isn’t going to polish his toxic image up. It will only highlight his failings.
