Taxpayers Reportedly Forced To Foot Staggering $2 Million A Month Bill To Cover The Cost Of Round-The-Clock Security For Mike Pompeo And One Of His Close Aides

Just when we thought we’d finally started to come away from our tax money footing the bill for things like Donald Trump’s golf trips and toilets for Ivanka and Jared’s security detail, we get smacked with something like this.

According to a sickening new report from the Associated Press, American taxpayers are being forced to foot the staggering $2 million a month bill to pay for round-the-clock security detail for former Trump-era Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and one of his closest senior aides.

Apparently, the excuse for the massive bill boils down to a requirement for extra, heightened security for the former Trump official due to “serious and credible” threats against him and former envoy Brian Hook from Iran.

The report states, “The [State] Department told Congress in a report that the cost of protecting Pompeo and former Iran envoy Brian Hook between August 2021 and February 2022 amounted to $13.1 million. The report, dated Feb. 14 and marked ‘sensitive but unclassified,’ was obtained by The Associated Press on Saturday.”

The publication goes on to note, “Pompeo and Hook led the Trump administration’s ‘maximum pressure’ campaign against Iran and the report says U.S. intelligence assesses that the threats to them have remained constant since they left government and could intensify. The threats have persisted even as President Joe Biden’s administration has been engaged in indirect negotiations with Iran over a U.S. return to a landmark 2015 nuclear deal.”

The Associated Press points out that select members of a previous administration are customarily provided 180 days of security detail upon stepping down from their position when the administration they worked under comes to a close. There are options in effect that would allow a former official to extend said security measures under certain extenuating circumstances.

But let’s be frank here, anyone hailing from the Trump administration is simply bound to wring the American people for everything their worth. No matter the “circumstances.”
