Former President Donald Trump is in trouble again after he suddenly canceled an interview with The Detroit News. The reason? He was asked to show proof for his claim that crime is getting worse under President Joe Biden. Apparently, when it comes to facts, Trump seems to prefer them to remain out of reach.
At a Michigan event, Trump said there’s a big “crime wave” happening across the country, and he called it the “Kamala crime wave.” But when reporters asked for proof, the Trump team quickly ended the interview. The Detroit News said a campaign aide claimed Trump “didn’t have time” to keep talking when they started asking about the data. This sudden end made people wonder if his claims were just another case of the “alternative facts” often linked to his statements.
Now, let’s pause for a second. Isn’t this the same guy who once said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and still not lose any voters? Well, maybe he should focus on getting his facts straight.

FBI data, which Trump probably doesn’t read before bed, shows that violent crime actually went down in Biden’s first two years as president. The national violent crime rate dropped to 380.7 incidents per 100,000 people in 2022, down from 398.5 in 2020. But why bother with real facts when it’s just easier to just make things up?
Trump’s campaign didn’t let federal data stop their story. They called the FBI’s crime figures “totally unreliable,” saying they were just “estimates.” It’s ironic, considering Trump once claimed windmills cause cancer. In reality, Michigan’s data shows a different picture. Under Trump, violent crime in Michigan rose 12% from 2019 to 2020, with murders hitting their highest point in 2020. Now, Trump blames Biden for the crime increase, which is just similar to blaming the rain for a flood after leaving the taps on all night. Perhaps the real problem is Trump’s complete disregard for the truth.
As Democratic state Representative Tyrone Carter said, “Facts don’t matter to him. It’s about telling a story that benefits you.”
And when that story doesn’t hold up, he just walks away from the interview. In a world where facts are ignored and reality is optional, Trump and his allies seem more interested in telling stories than solving real problems.
