Back in April, House Democrats called the commemorative passport a “distraction” from rising gas prices tied to the Iran war. Months later, Eric Trump appeared to prove their point by filming a short tribute to it.

The passport is the State Department’s “Patriot Passport,” created for America’s 250th anniversary. It features Trump’s portrait alongside text from the Declaration of Independence, a gold flag graphic, and a drawing of the Founding Fathers signing the document, with his signature printed in gold underneath.

Only 250,000 are being made, and they don’t come cheap. Each costs $130, plus a $35 fee for first-time applicants, and the limited edition is already backordered at agencies across the country.

The State Department has defended the design, describing it as having the “same advanced security features” that make the American passport “the most secure travel and identity document in the world.” It also called the limited run a “special” and “historic” way to mark the anniversary.

House Democrats weren’t quite as impressed.

When the design was first announced, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee said: “The irony: Many Americans can’t even afford to travel right now.”

Eric Trump, meanwhile, seemed to have no such reservations. “Look at what just came in the mail,” Eric said in his video, opening the passport on camera. “New passport.” He held it up for a second before giving his review. “I absolutely love it.”

The reactions weren’t exactly glowing.


That same irony traces back to Trump himself.

Back in 2025, he hung a framed copy of the Declaration of Independence in the Oval Office, telling a reporter it represented “a declaration of unity and love and respect.”
