The White House Tried A Taylor Swift Meme To Celebrate Trump—And The Internet Is Absolutely Roasting It

An own goal masterpiece

Nobody in Washington apparently paused to consider that borrowing the aesthetic of the world’s biggest pop star on the eve of her wedding, after years of public political feuding, might not produce the reaction they were hoping for.

The official White House X account posted “America’s Eras Tour” on Thursday, an image styled after Taylor Swift’s blockbuster Eras Tour poster, with Trump’s raised fist at the center, surrounded by George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, the Moon landing, and the famous photograph of a Navy sailor kissing a woman in Times Square. The caption read: “It’s been a long time coming…,” borrowing one of Swift’s own promotional lines from the tour.

Social media saw an opportunity and ran with it.

The design placed Trump in the middle of a collage celebrating American history while borrowing the unmistakable visual identity of one of the most successful concert tours ever created, by an artist who has endorsed Trump’s opponents in two straight elections.

One edited version quickly led to another.

One replaced the historical imagery with photos of Trump appearing to fall asleep during public events. Another inserted Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender who once moved in the same social circles as Trump, into the collage. The sharpest version, titled “America’s Errors Tour,” included the cryptic 2003 birthday message the Wall Street Journal reported was sent by Trump to Epstein, something Trump has denied writing.

Swift is reportedly set to marry Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden this weekend, with celebrity guests including Adam Sandler, Jack Antonoff, Gigi Hadid, and Bradley Cooper already spotted around New York.

That also revived the long history between Swift and the president.

Trump has called Swift “no longer sexy,” shared AI-generated images falsely suggesting she endorsed him, sold fake Eras Tour merchandise, and publicly declared that he “hated” her. Swift has responded in the only way that has mattered politically, endorsing Trump’s opponents in back-to-back elections while making it clear she wants nothing to do with him.

After her engagement to Kelce became public, Trump softened his tone, telling reporters: “I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great guy and I think that she’s a terrific person.” Whether that goodwill extended to borrowing her entire visual identity for a White House post is another matter.
