Back in 2020, Donald Trump lost the presidential election after Joe Biden narrowly flipped key states, including Georgia. Trump refused to accept the outcome and repeatedly claimed the vote was stolen, even as courts, audits, and election officials found no evidence of widespread fraud.
Years later, those same claims are now behind a federal move in Georgia that has alarmed local officials and election workers.
On Wednesday, FBI agents searched the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center outside Atlanta. The large, warehouse-style facility opened in 2023 and is used to store election materials from past races.
Federal officials confirmed that agents executed a warrant at the site, describing the search as a “court-authorized law enforcement activity.” Fulton County officials said the warrant sought records connected to the 2020 election.
According to a law enforcement official, agents were seeking computers and ballots believed to be stored at the facility. The official spoke on condition of anonymity.

As the search unfolded, Fulton County Commissioner Mo Ivory confirmed that federal officials were on site. She said agents were collecting about 700 boxes of ballots from a secure location. In a video posted from inside the election center, Ivory accused Trump of “trying to create chaos” to benefit Republicans ahead of the November midterm elections.
Speaking later to reporters, Ivory described the federal action as “an assault on voters.” She said local officials were considering legal options to block the seizure. “We know in America right now it does not even matter if what you are saying is the right thing. If our president wants to bring in the forces, he will,” Ivory said.
The search came just days after Trump again repeated his debunked election claims while speaking in Davos, Switzerland.
“People will soon be prosecuted for what they did,” Trump said.
The renewed focus on Georgia follows Trump’s earlier efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 results. At the time, he pressured election officials to “find” votes that would reverse his loss.
Multiple reviews of the election, including a hand audit, later confirmed that Biden narrowly won the state.
Critics say the latest federal action is driven by political fear. Dr. Everton Blair, a Georgia congressional candidate, said Trump is acting out of concern over future elections.
“Trump is terrified of what’s coming in the Midterm elections this year. He’s afraid of Democrats who will actually hold him accountable winning out in the May primaries. And he’s trying to interfere more broadly with the General election outcomes in November,” Blair said.
Georgia State Senator RaShaun Kemp also condemned the seizure of ballots, calling it an “unprecedented escalation designed to sow doubt and fear around our election.”
“For years, election workers in Fulton County have endured false accusations, political intimidation, and even threats simply for doing their jobs,” Kemp said.
Civil rights leaders echoed those concerns. Nadine Smith, president of Color Of Change, called the raid a “dangerous escalation.”
“This is part of a broader neo-segregationist agenda to strip Black political power through voter suppression and intimidation,” Smith said.
