The president and First Lady are often seen together in public. They were at the IndyCar race in Washington on Sunday, and while it’s not clear what was said, due to the sounds of the loud race cars, it appeared the two were having something of a contentious exchange:

Meanwhile, another video from the same day seemed to show the president touching Melania’s knee, at which point she got up and left:

What’s really going on? According to The Daily Beast, Melania returned last week from a protracted, unexplained absence, amid lots of speculation about the status of the president’s relationship with ever-present aide Natalie Harp.
“Donald Trump’s ever-present aide Natalie Harp appeared to abandon her usual post by the president’s side as Melania Trump made a rare White House appearance,” the Beast reported.
“Harp, the president’s 35-year-old executive assistant, did not appear in photos of the event taken by AP, Getty, or Reuters. Her apparent absence is striking for an aide who has been seemingly glued to Trump’s side—from his secret flight out of Turkey last month to his weekend jaunt to his New Jersey golf club,” the outlet added.
The Independent, though, reported that Harp was present for the race on Sunday.
“President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were joined by family members, MAGA allies and White House staffers for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix Sunday— including devoted executive assistant Natalie Harp,” the newspaper said.
