Outgoing first lady Melania Trump tweeted a photo of the final official Christmas portrait before the new administration takes power in January. Donald and Melania donned matching black tuxedos while posing together on the White House’s grand staircase in Washington, D.C. And sure, we could be big-hearted about this and wish the Trumps a very Merry Christmas, except for the fact that the president has been attempting a coup, so there’s that.
Also, I don’t care about Melania’s fancy stiletto heels while Americans are going hungry, evictions are going to be spiking, and COVID-19 is hammering our healthcare system. This president failed to address the coronavirus from the beginning. He’s failed even to mention COVID-19 recently and the over three hundred and fourteen thousand Americans that have died on his watch. We all know how she really feels about Christmas anyway.
Look, matching outfits:

The Twitterverse chimed in.
Imagine evangelicals grabbing their pitchforks if Michelle Obama had referred on tape to the holiday as “fucking Christmas” & then posed in a White House Christmas pic “in a MAN’S tux defying traditional gender roles & mocking Christian marriages between one man and one woman!”? pic.twitter.com/d4kkzzYioe

Love, warmth, closeness and family unity. Qualities long gone from the white house. A distant and superficial first couple is evident in pictures and archived videos. We long for warm, down to earth occupants. pic.twitter.com/XHUw0QU6xv

Not a word of empathy for 300,000+ American families who will be spending Christmas without a loved one because of this administration’s massive failure to control the pandemic? Nothing about the families who will be celebrating apart so that they don’t kill grandma?
