As Donald Trump continues to tell the world in not so many words that he has absolutely no intention of discouraging violence in his name as the 2024 presidential election closes in, Trump biographer Tim O’Brien spoke with MSNBC’s Joy Reid last night and revealed the specific threatening comment the ex-president has always fallen back on when he finds himself in a situation where he’s not getting his way — and it rings quite familiar from the past few days.
The former president and 2024 presidential candidate is currently facing a mountain of legal troubles on both a civil and criminal level — none of which is even remotely going his way — and he’s made it well known in his public remarks and social media posts that he’s not handling that fact well.
“Trump was supposed to testify in his other case he’s freaking out about, the money case in … New York,” MSNBC host Joy Reid said, touching on the news that the former president was formally banned by a federal judge from speaking in his own defense in the case. “He’s not going to testify anymore because the rules said he couldn’t go and do a political speech and he couldn’t yell at the clerk. And so, he’s like, no. I’m not — he was never going to testify. Let’s just be clear.”
O’Brien was quick to point out what we’ve all been thinking, noting, “Well, the only reason he was there was to engage in political theater. He doesn’t know anything about how court processes work,” prompting Reid to agree with him.

“Yesterday after the hearing, he said there’s ‘bedlam’ if these courts prosecute me, there will be bedlam,” the Trump biographer continued. “He has used that word throughout his whole career any time the system comes at him in a way he doesn’t like. When [former New York City Mayor] Ed Koch refused to zone a piece of property Trump wanted on the West Side, he said, there’s bedlam in New York, I couldn’t get zoned.”
“He has no sense of proportion,” he added. “And he’s got no sense of civility or the rule of law. So he’ll simply say, it’s chaos because I’m not getting what I want.”
Trump is quite literally showing and telling us what he’s going to do if he doesn’t get his way.
