Happy Thanksgiving.

President-elect Donald Trump marked Thanksgiving in his signature fashion: by taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, to share a late-night message blending holiday cheer with partisan insults. Posted just before 1 a.m., Trump’s message began with a standard greeting before pivoting into his familiar rhetoric targeting political opponents.

“Happy Thanksgiving to all, including to the Radical Left Lunatics who have worked so hard to destroy our Country,” Trump wrote, accusing his critics of failing to upend his agenda. He continued by claiming that the “great people of our Nation just gave a landslide victory to those who want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

A Tradition of Trolling

This isn’t the first time Trump has used Thanksgiving to air his grievances. His post recalled a similar message from last year, where he vowed electoral victory in 2024, and even harkened back to his infamous 2013 tweet calling out “haters and losers.” His latest post, however, doubled down on his narrative of political triumph and alleged national decline under his opponents.

After the fiery declaration, Trump softened his tone slightly in a follow-up: “Don’t worry, our Country will soon be respected, productive, fair, and strong, and you will be, more than ever before, proud to be an American!” This message, which also appeared on Elon Musk’s platform X, aimed to reassure his supporters while reinforcing his campaign’s key talking points.

A Brief Pause, Then Back to the Spotlight

Later in the day, Trump shared a calmer photo-op post: a smiling picture of himself with a police officer, emblazoned with the words “Happy Thanksgiving! 2024.” The post starkly contrasted his late-night tirade, showing his ability to oscillate between contentious rhetoric and more traditional political optics.

The Usual Playbook

Trump’s Thanksgiving social media blitz continues his longstanding approach of using holidays to rally his base while stoking division. While his supporters cheer his defiance, critics see it as yet another example of his inability to unite the country—even on a day meant for gratitude and togetherness.
