Trump Humiliated As Mexico’s President Debunks His Boast About Their Call

This didn't end well for him.

Donald Trump sparked another wave of mockery on social media after making questionable claims about a recent call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. In a post on Truth Social, the president-elect declared that Sheinbaum had agreed to “stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border.”

Sheinbaum, however, wasted no time setting the record straight. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), she emphasized Mexico’s commitment to fostering collaboration rather than border closures. “We reiterate that Mexico’s position is not to close borders but to build bridges between governments and communities,” she wrote.

A Familiar Pattern

Both leaders described the call as positive, but Trump’s comments came against the backdrop of his aggressive trade threats. Earlier this week, he vowed to impose steep tariffs—25% on goods from Canada and Mexico and 10% on imports from China—until he deemed the flow of drugs and migrants into the U.S. to be under control.

The episode mirrors Trump’s infamous 2016 pledge that Mexico would “100%” pay for a border wall. That claim was swiftly dismissed by then-Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, and U.S. taxpayers ultimately funded the wall.

Social Media Responds

Social media erupted with sarcasm and ridicule following Trump’s latest exaggeration. Journalist Sam Stein quipped, “All it took was one call. Donny deals.”

Mike Nellis, a former aide to Vice President Kamala Harris, mocked Trump’s assertion, saying, “Trump thinks he convinced the President of Mexico to stop all migration across the border LOL.”

Olivia Troye, a former White House official during Trump’s tenure, offered a biting “translation” of his remarks: “Just had a conversation with the President of Mexico who didn’t allow me to bully her, which left me confused about my charm… she pointed out that this is very bad… very bad for me if I do these tariffs…”

Trump’s Tariff Threats and Questionable Diplomacy

This latest incident underscores Trump’s ongoing reliance on hyperbole and misinformation to frame his interactions with foreign leaders. While his base may celebrate these declarations as victories, the reality often tells a different story—one that social media users are quick to expose.
